I've posted about Repecca and her difficulties in other threads. She doesn't roost, won't traverse the ramp up or down (which makes soft hearted me take her down in the morning, up at night), seems to see ok, is possibly pigeon toed, extremely clumsy. She eats, drinks, poops, and preens all normal.
Because she doesn't roost but wants to be near the other 3 gals she often gets underneath them. This morning I picked her up to move down to the run only to find my hand wet with runny poop. Her back had a big glob and we are in a deep freeze. I brought her inside, rinsed her off with water and an old washcloth, dried her with granddaughters hairdryer. Since she had been exposed to so much warmth I put her inside the henhouse to be out of drafts until she reaclimated. An hour later I had to go get her out so she could finally eat and drink That was 10am. Her feathers look stained but not soiled.
So that's Repecca adventure today. My question is how can we avoid this? Any suggestions? I won't be able to do this if it's a work day!

She doesn't roost but i wonder if you put something in there pretty close to the highth of the perch and big enough for her to comfortably rest on if she'd sleep on it. One of mine had trouble getting on the roost so i put a little wood footstool in there. It was just a little lower than the roost so she could manage to get up on it and sleep on the stool. It was perfect because the hen couldn't balance and grip on the roost.

I like that idea! Now to give it some thought. And hope the others don't take it over.

Looking into clean out door. They prefer to sit in shavings over sitting on roosts.

How can she roost under these roosts?

Improvisation is my middle name. I know Pecca isn't going to jump up on a higher perch than the low ones pre-installed. Found 2 cigar boxes I'm not using. Tied them together its a good 3 inches tall. Put that in a corner away from the line of fire. Now to wait and see if she uses it.
