I want to install a couple solar motion sensor lights on my run when it is finished. It would be handy if I have to go out to the coop at night as well as alert us to predators. I was wondering if anyone uses these and if so, do they work well and do they last a long time? I am planning to put the actual lights under the eaves of the run so they are somewhat protected from the weather and the solar panel on the roof, which faces south. We won't be having electricity run to the coop just now, so solar is out only option. Would love to hear your experiences. Thanks.

We have one. We got the one that they sell at Costco. We used to unhook it from the charging panel every night and carry it across the yard to the coop. We just hung t on a hook instead of permanently mounting it. It's great because it's bright and you can adjust the time, brightness and sensitivity. We recently bought an extra one to mount onto the coop. It's working well.
We've brought our lights camping too. It's fantastic for that.

Thank you for the information. The hooks are a great idea! I will check out Costco for sure. I saw them on QVC and thought that would be a great solution for some outdoor light. I like the motion sensors so they aren't on all the time annoying our neighbors. We live in the mountains with no street lights and people get upset when someone installs a bunch of outdoor lights that are on all night.

We have plans for using Solar Motion detector lights too. They will be permanently mounted and I am going to install a battery backup for the periods of cloudy days we get. I found some LED ones at Home Depot that are only in the 30 dollar range that will throw a lot of light and last almost forever. Where our coop is situated I will need at least two and possibly three to get full coverage.

I like the idea of removable but for our situation that would not be practical.
