Solar powered duck pond

Hello all! We are looking at expanding our flock and adding duck but we want to have the setup first. We live on 1 1/2 acres and there would be no way to supply electricity to a pond. It would be too far. My hubby always wanted a pond and I always wanted ducks! Are there any solar powered filter/ pump systems out there? We are not looking at a huge pond just a smaller one like 3 ft wide? Suggestions please.

I'm making a pond for my mom once it stops snowing, and I plan to use a solor pump from amazon (about $300, includes solar panels) and using it to build a DIY bucket filter. I plan to make it no bigger than 8 ft by 6ft. We'll only have a couple of ornamental ducks though.

Bravo to both of you. Bonsumart21, welcome.

Have you also worked on plans to protect the ducks from predators? Ponds and ducks both attract predators. And ducks need your protection. Domestics cannot defend themselves and they cannot outrun predators. Most domestic ducks cannot even fly more than a few feet.

Pred. Protection won't be a problem. They will have a small kiddie pool in their run and then we will let them free range when they can be sorta watched. Our dogs also do a good job of watching out for bird thieves. We are lucky enough to never have lost a chicken to a predator.

I have worked on this design for a while and it is working AMAZING!

I built a Skippy filter using a 150 gallon Rubbernaid trough. The only variance to what they describe on the Skippy filter's website was that I used plant nursery trays rather than the light grates. I had buried a 350 gallon rubbermaid trough in the ground of my aviary / duck & chicken run. We are using a 550 gpm Rule 12V bilge pump that we connected to 30W /3 amps of solar panels (2 - 15 watt panels connected to create 30W). I've planted Bok Choy, lettuces and chard some additional nursery trays placed on top of the filtration material (I purchased from Skippy's).

I can't recommend highly enough ! The pond is filtering beautifully, with seven ducks using it !

Hey there, I'm interested in knowing how you did this. I'm so confused with everything thats online about this. I need to get a filter going so I can set up my ducka pond but I don't even know where to start.
