It's okay. I will never know anyway. I just learned a lesson.

i have noticed that a lot when you have a white and black EE it ends up being a roo. I have two lol and the other one I have started out white, grey, and black, but then started to feather in brown a few weeks after we got her, and definitely a girl.

but for one of my ee roos that looks ALOT like your white "pullet" his comb is not red or large at all,

but the other one on the other hand has a redder comb (pea comb that is) and it is slightly larger but not by much. and the one with the redder comb is the most dominant of the 3. so maybe that has something to do with it.

I have learned that it does no good to be impatient when it comes to these bird brains, because all you really have to do to get your answers is wait. and I hate waiting!!!

Yup, wait until they crow or lay a egg.. Some you can tell sooner.. But even then you should not base you're decision off of comb alone.. Much much more factors need to be looked at before you say it's a cockerel due to how big the comb is, or how red it is.. And just because it has a long tail/pointy saddle/hackles doesn't exactly indicate what they are.. Not intended to come off as harsh if it does. Sorry to hear about you're luck though

i would say that it probably is a roo, im sorry:( and it also does look like the "cockerel" sold is a pullet. I have EE's too, also from April 3! what a coincidence!

Anywho, I thought a couple of mine were roos and was already making plans of getting rid of them until i decided to post some pics of them on here and ask people roo or pullet? everyone agreed they were all pullets! So I'm keeping them, so next time, if I were you I would just wait until they are mature.

The Two white chicks are pullets and in the adult pic, its still a pullet to me...

Just because there are pointed feathers does not mean its a Roo ONLY in Easter Eggers! MANY girls have pointed feathers when they are Easter Eggers because of their mixture....

So, I vote girl on that white EE!

I think your chicken is a pullet. She has the body shape, coloring, and comb of an EE pullet. I wouldn't worry about the strange feather - I had a BSL pullet that had a feather like that, but soon after, the rest of the feathers followed and she now has a normal tail (a pullet tail).

As for the chicks you sold as cockerels, the red one & the mottled EE in the last pic are cockerels - it looks like you did well in figuring them out.

Hard to say but the white one looks like a roo to me.

We have 11 week old chicks and have picked out 3 of the 19 that we think are roos...

Not bad stats for a hatch!

I knew there was a chance I could be wrong on the calls I made in guessing gender. I figured I had most of them right. I hatched the 8 EEs from eggs of the 6 " araucana pullets" I bought from the feed store last year. One of them was a roo. 6 days after I gave him away I decided I wanted to hatch chicks. I gathered the eggs 6 & 7 days after the roo was gone. My 1st hatch. I got 8 of 9 in an LG still air. Not bad.

I find it interesting & challenging to attempt to guess the gender. I changed my guesses many times. I will wait longer to "give my final answer" in the future.

I have read the chicks that begin to develop tails quickly are pullets. The tailess ones are roos. I am testing this theory as I have 3 babies with tails & 1 without.

bethandjoeync, it is a drag to wait for gender determination & for the first eggs. Thanks for your input.

DTchickens, you don't sound harsh at all. I wanted to know what others had to say. Thank you.

Amy. Great you made the right call to wait & ask.
Lanissa, aren't EEs fun? I love them.
ArizonaDesertChicks, 2 of the cockerels sold were red. I think I made a good call. If not, lucky for the buyer who hoped a pullet might be in the box. Very interesting about the morphing tail feathers.
Mahonri, 3 of 19 roos. Fantastic ratio! I thought 3 of 8 was good. (4 of 8?)

Thank you all. This is a fun learning experience.

I believe you have a pullet. Hackle and saddle feathers on your bird have nothing in common with a roo. Also the posture is very pullet like. That tail might be bigger, but then it is an EE and god knows what parentage is in there.
For comparison, below is a link to my silver hen. She was between 6-8 weeks old when the picture was taken.
