Sold as Mottled Java..I'm guessing Cuckoo Maran?

She's definitely not a mottled Java. The color pattern is completely different. I would guess she's a hatchery quality cuckoo Marans or Marans mix. The light and dark of her feathers don't have as much contrast as you'd normally see in a Marans and her hackle feathers have blotches of black with a hint of white lacing. That would indicate an outcross to another breed somewhere in her ancestry.

Hatcheries DO produce mixed breeds. On purpose. They put brand names on them and sometimes even refer to that brand name as a "breed" when it isn't.

If you know which hatchery, it might be possible to identify from that.

Yes, or the hatchery mislabel them. Did you get it as a chick?

No, we got her as a 20 week old. She's really pretty. A blue color with some white. I'll go back to the farm store today and see what they have her labeled as. My boyfriend said they weren't labeled when he chose them. They had just put them out and the girl helping him was telling him the breeds, perhaps she got it mixed up with another breed.

I will ask which hatchery when I go in today.

Went back to the farm storm today. They order their birds from Privett Hatchery. There aren't any pictures on the website. But, I did a search on the forum for Privett and found a picture of a mottled java someone else got from there and it was indeed a mottled java. They had one more bird in the pen and the farm store that was labeled mottled java that looked just like our girl. Oh well, guess she will just be a mystery chicken. She is very sweet, calm, and big. So we are happy with her.

This is the color egg that Turkey laid today. The picture is pretty true to color-slightly less brown than picture.

She is pretty. Sometimes I think people worry too

Very nice.

Privett has a reputation for a rather loose interpretation of "breed representative". It really doesn't matter for most people's purposes but if you were establishing a breeding flock, I wouldn't get them there.

Yours wouldn't be the first accidental mixed breed chick hatched after a rooster jumped a fence, either. It is less likely at a hatchery but they also may hatch eggs produced elsewhere as many hatcheries do to increase their variety.
