I have questioned the breed this whole time, because shouldn't all 4 chicks look very similar? I have two that are black with white in wings, and 2 are barred looking. One i know is a rooster because they are only around 5 or 6 weeks here andthat'sdefinitelyred comb andwattle . (Maybe 6?)here are two of my four , what are they gender and breed wise?

It's hard to tell from the pictures, but the on the right looks like a male. I think sapphire sky is one of those breeds where cockerels/roos are barred. I'm very new, so wait for someone with more experience to weigh in. But if you have 2 barred and 2 that aren't, you may very well have all sapphire sky chicks, but only 2 pullets.

@ChickenChick46 is correct, Sapphire Sky chickens are sex-link chickens. This means cockerels are barred (striped) while pullets are solid. At hatch the males will have a white dot on the top of the head. Will the seller take the males back and swap for pullets?
Thank you for confirming for me @BigBlueHen53. There is so much that goes into breed ID and gender ID. I've read so much in the month. I swear, I think I've dreamed about chickens every night since I got my first chicks. Lol. It consumes my brain.

Beware of the Chicken Addiction... maybe you should read about horses. Or go watch a cooking show, lol. And, yes, you're welcome.

I've got it bad myself. I have 20 hens. I only have room for maaaaybe 25. So what did I do? Ordered 15 chicks. And Cackle very generously gave me 21. :barnie Chicken Math! :he

I have room for about 20. Including the ones I've ordered that will be here late next month or early October, I'm up to 14. And that's if I don't get any extras from Meyer. I don't know if they send them or not, especially since 2 of the 6 are already their free options. My order is actually for 12 birds, but 2 are the free ones and 6 are my neighbor's.
