Sold!!! One dozen eggs!!!

I am afraid of underpricing! You can always drop the price, but try raising it on existing customers....OMG

SO I sell for $2 a doz. , the Amish around my area get $1.50 and I occasionally hear that. But most of my customers are just happy to get good quality farm eggs.

I think most folks who go to the farmer's market are looking for super fresh eggs. If your eggs are more money, but fresher, people will be willing to pay more. If you match the price on store bought eggs, you win, no contest. Organic. "home grown" and free range eggs are in demand, and a lot of these folks want them. In my opinion, this trend toward self sufficiency and "grow your own" movements stem from the fact that people don't want to eat all kinds of hormones and antibiotics. Then the big salmonella outbreak last month at the factory farms.

I usually sell mine for $3 per dozen, but I have one person who insists on giving me $10 for 3 dozen, and another woman whom I give them to for $2.50 per dozen if she buys two or more dozen. The going rate at the local farmer's market only a few blocks away from where I live, is usually $3.50 to $5 per dozen. I'm happy to sell a few and make a little feed/treat money. There will never be any profit in this, for me, as I give away eggs to neighbors and family, and anyone that is down on their luck. Besides that, we have spent way too much on coops, utensils, bedding, etc. But I'm happy.

Where are you located? In Eastern MA, I give mine away right now, but a guy up the street sells his... Two bins: Regular fresh eggs $3 a dozen. Free Range $4.50 Doz. Now being a betting man I suspect they come from the same nest boxes, but the customer says what is right or wrong, and if they want free range, they can opt for them!

Before mine started laying I was paying $4.00 a dozen. Seems to depend a lot on the region. Congratulations on selling yours!
