Soldier Gifts for Those In Iraq....AWESOME pics!!!!

Pam....

One photo came out for me.....
He is a cutie...but of course, Im partial to men in uniform.
LOL!!!

Please ask him, if there is anything we (Troy's) can send them.... playing cards, games, sudoku books, stationary, phone cards, toiletries, snacks, coffee etc..... before I go...

I cannot promise who will do what, once I give up my role as coordinator. It will happen, just maybe at a slower pace.

Also, to let everyone know.....

there is a huge movement underfoot, to get another "Troy's" set up on the west side of this place, which is primarily the Army side of Balad. It would not be named Troy's, but, would resemble Troy's in terms of outreach and amenities. The base does have a USO and the Red Cross closer to the Army side, and they have computer and phone access, but they offer little else.

On this base, Troy's really is the place to go, it's almost like our best kept secret, although, everyone (who can get here) is welcome. The problem is, access... only official vehicles, so everyone outside of our area, has to bus it, and when you're working 12 to 15 hour days, 7 days a week, as most of the Army does, or outside the wire, the last thing you want to do it bus it to Troy's. Hopefully we can get something firmed up before I leave.

No matter what, chaplains who get word of any need anywhere, will use whatever means they have to make sure the troops get supplies

We have accomplished so much... but, so much left to do....

And, I cannot thank my fellow BYCers enough for sending items and making so many of our lives that much easier. Trust me, all our chaplains know, We/BYCers love chickens, and if not for chickens, so much we had sent wouldn't be here.....

Great to hear from you Athena

I am so happy you will be on your way home soon. I really understand that even that you are glad to leave you have mixed feelings of who and what you are leaving behind and how they all will be taken care of.

We will just pray there is another warm and caring individual that comes up to work 3/4's as hard as you have.

And more volunteers to help keep things moving.

I will be sending some packages out at the end of this month as that is payday.

And I will continue to as long as I keep getting boxes filled at the Courthouse.

Thank You Karan,....

When I get home, I will work on getting things sent as well.

Most of these troops are between the ages of 18 and 23, and younger, enlisted types... For some, being away is hard enough... and being in the military with its rules and regulations, isn't always easy. So, right there, they have my kudo's...

Yes, they chose this way of life, and thank goodness they did!

They don't make much, money wise, and every savings and convenience we can give, allows them financial freedom. To come back home, and buy something worthy... So many have wives, children, families, bills...and are just starting out...

They are soooo appreciative of Troy's and thankful for folks like BYCers that care and support!!

Athena
Still counting the days...Jan is almost over and Feb is short then March will be here before you know it...Cards and the games were appreciated at christmas time... and of course snacks are always welcomed...Havent been able to talk to him for a couple of weeks so don't know exactly what they need...they are going out on patrols...from the pics on his MySpace Iraq looks so bleak...and dirty... I know it is hard to plant flowers when people are trying to blow each other up... I hope when the world over there goes back to peace time they get a chance of making their world a prettier cleaner place...

Let us know if you need anything before you leave...

Pam

Have ya heard the Peanut Butter Recall, I just was worried that someone might have put snack crackers in that would not be safe!! Just letting ya know!

GPN

I have to wait on sending my package right now

The peanut butter recall is for the paste....not peanut butter per se..

I could be wrong, but that is the gist I have gotten here..

Plus, when recalls are done, they issue lot numbers, specific products... etc.

You would really be surprised at what the soldiers can come up with. When Jason was over there the first time I did send him grass seeds, veggies seeds to plant, even a few strawberry snippings, heck yeah even flower bulbs/seeds.

When the grass grew in I think the guys enjoyed that the most. Of course it was nothing like at home. But it was something. They would walk on the little bits they had, and one even grew a nice little patch of grass in the shape of the arrow(for the red arrow brigade). That was not Jason, but someone with him.
The veggies and flowers were kinda touch and go. But they enjoyed planting, growing, and tending to the stuff. Even Jason who is really not into that at home. Still doesn't really help in the gardens or flower beds. He does mow though...Of course it is a rider...Back on track....Some of the guys would even go out with sisscors and cut the grass. They all took pride in what they grew over there....
They came up with miniture water systems and everything for these little 'gardens'. And water for them was ALWAYS on very short supply.
I already have a few seed packets ready I plan on sending him this time too...
