Had a rough 1st incubation with a cheap incubator and only 1 chick was viable/hatched. This chick is now a week old in the brooder and doing well. Chick isn’t loud or attached to me - I put a few mirrors in there and a plush animal and some string and occasionally I’ll play chick sounds for it online..

I now have a broody hen. Not sure if her eggs are still fertilized but if so they would be due to hatch in 2 weeks.

1) Will this sole chick be ok on their own for 2 more weeks while I wait to see if this hen’s new brood hatches?

2) If so, could I safely try to raise the brooding hen’s eggs in a brooder inside next to the sole chick for “company” until the temps even out enough to integrate them with a 3 week difference?

i have one thats bout 4 weeks now like that ... it will just be a loner until it reaches 'egg laying' maturity .. i have a wire pen and put it out where the flock hangs alot during the day, then back in the brooder at night .. its almost warm enough she can stay in the pen, covered .. i think as far as younger chicks and going the other way with things youll have to keep them seperated for a good while .. who knows after several weeks they may integrate, just play it by ear and see ..

Ok thx

I’d get her a friend. Chicks imo don’t do as well mentally as when they have a friend. I’ve had single ducks hatch only to find no other ducks to buy and had to go the chick route. The two were inseparable. And when I placed them, I placed both together. Snuggle time and an actual breathing bird- there is no substitution for it.
