Solid matter in poop ?

Hi! My hen is not feeling well. Today she isn't interested in food and when I finally saw her poop it was liquid with this weird solid part in it. The solid part looks like solidified egg white or something. Her body and vent looks normal. I'm not sure what to do - just hoping she's ok. Could it be an egg issue or something else? She is 10 and the last egg she laid was maybe 2 months ago and it was an empty sack. Before that she laid a shelless egg. I figured maybe she's done laying.

That could be a lash egg, but I would cut it in two to make sure. Salpingitis, an inflammation of the oviduct causes lash egg material to be deposited in the abdomen and sometimes will show up inna dropping. Wow, 10 year old hen who had laid eggs recently! That is pretty amazing. Lash eggs are usually flesh colored and may look like some of the ones in this article:

Wow maybe it is that..I cut it in half and it's soft and slightly yellow tinged on the inside. Doesn't look like most of the pics though.

You may or may not see another one. If it was lash material, they can be laid internally in the abdomen or in the oviduct. I have never seen one in droppings before, but have found some good sized ones inside the abdomens of hens of whom I have done a necropsy. Is she feeling any better today?

She seems slightly better today and had a few small bites of food (yogurt, bread, chicken feed) but still not much. Still pretty quiet and moving slower. This is her latest poop. Was thinking about doing a mail in fecal sample or taking her to vet. Not sure

My regular vet has said that they would do a fecal float for me as a favor, although they don’t see chickens. The mail in fecal tests sound like a good deal, but after reading the reviews of people online, I am not sure how well the service is. Hoepfully, she will start eating better in a day or so. If her crop seems to be empty by morning, you could try tube feeding her. Mine would eat scrambled egg, tuna, and canned cat food in addition to chicken feed made wet with water, but I had to try often when she was in the mood.

My hen is doing 100 times better today! She is back to her perky self and I saw that she even laid a solid poop! lol I'm so happy
