Thanks, all. I guess I'll keep an eye out to see if it becomes consistent and try to figure out who it is.
I'm halfway between "pets" and "farm" as far as chicken value goes. When they quit laying, they go into retirement and just get to eat and hang out. We really enjoy them and have even sacrificed some prime yard so my wife can watch them from the back porch, but I'm not taking a $25 bird to a $50-100 vet plus meds. If this was something that could decimate the whole flock, that would be different.
I read up on this and it appears the condition is "salpingitis". No known causes, not contagious. So if I figure out who it is, I'll band her leg with a stay tie (loose) for easy identification and if there are signs of distress, I'll cull and bury her.
