heh,heh...we wondered why, suddenly, we haven't seen as many rats.; sometimes not any! Today I went to do afternoon feeding and heard a rat squealing; saw a snake's tail lashing from the direction of the noise, then wisk out of sight! Black Rat Snake!!! The Ohio Farmer's friend! May they live and prosper!

BLACK SNAKES RULE ::: here where we live we got a few big old black snakes that hang around our field i let them be they keep the rattlers away ..

I can't wait for our snakes to get moving! So many little vermin around here right now. Never seen one in action - thats cool! (as long as its not chicks or eggs)

Snakes are great creatures. We like them around our place. When I mow grass we gather up any that we find and let them go after the mower is put away. I hate when I run over them. Snakes do RULE.

Collect eggs early and brood the chicks yourself. Then the rat snake will be your best friend.

Thats what I do. I've just heard stories - and seen some pics. I'd stick some heat lamps outside if I thought it would bring 'em out earlier.

Right now, they can have all the eggs they want...since we just dewormed the flock. I hope the dewormer doesn't hurt the snakes....:| I've noticed there haven't been many eggs to pick up lately.
