I've been so busy this spring/summer building a new chicken coop all by myself I never bothered to plant a garden this year. But I did get a few volunteers that I let grow... some sunflowers, roma tomato and ????
I thought it was a cucumber so I put a trellis around it, but it definitely is NOT a cucumber.
The only other things I've tried growing in the past that are even close are butternut squash, big and mini pumpkins and mini watermelons -- all of which never produced anything (except a very few pumpkins).

Whatever this is has grown really super fast... it's huge!

The mystery has been solved... it’s a Tuscan melon!

Well, it has leaves like a squash, but it grows more like a cucumber, and the fruit looks like a pumpkin or watermelon, so maybe you have some weird hybrid plant??? Hybrids happen, usually with a little help from Burpee, Bayer, and Monsanto, but sometimes they happen naturally! Keep us posted, you might have the new wonder squash of the century... Did your neighbor have a garden last year? If not, most likely it is a volunteer from one of those plants you grew last year, possibly 2 of them! Keep us posted, looks like it has a lot of bloom, so should have many of what ever it has...:caf:pop

Yeah, I've never had anything like this before! A hybrid would be interesting. Last year my pumpkin, squash and watermelon never got to be more than a 12" vine... started from seeds and totally failed. Usually my cucumbers & peas grow the best for me, but even those had many little starts.
This one started out as a single sprout and it's almost getting out of control now. Crazy.
I hope it's a melon... this is my seed packet from last year

But on second thought, it's growing in a completely different bed than the one from last year.

Let it crawl on the ground ... it looks healthy, if someone spit watermelon seeds on the ground that can happen ...or if a bird poops seeds it happens
That's true, maybe it IS just a mystery plant from bird poop!

Well, in any case, it's not much trouble to keep it watered and I'll find out eventually. I'll post pictures of what I end up with.

Thanks everyone!!
