I am at my wits end. I dont know whats wrong with my LB rooster, but he's on deaths door. he's been declining and languishing for a week now, ever since a dog attack that left him apparently unscathed.

I am in the throws of 24/7 morning sickness and its literally all I can do to move him into the coop and out of the coop, and then around the yard every day. I just went to move him into the coop for the night and found that he was INFESTED with maggots. He cant move at all so his bum is coated with poo. I hosed him off thinking i got all the poo and all the maggots but no dice. Theyre both there still. His eyes seem like they cant dilate and contract right, he flops around at best, but not really moving himself, he's hot, and his poo is green, runny, and a little slimy.

He needs put down but I just cant handle doing it. Iam so upset, I am so incredibly sick and just physically worn out, and I am so frustraited for him. He's my best roo, he's a pet. I feel like I have maggots crawling on me now...

I dont even know what I expect anyone to do to help... I seriously need someone to kill my rooster for me. Oh I just want to cry.

I wish I could help you from here. It's best he be put down. Do you have someone you can call to do the deed?

Hugs.

Although it is hard for you too think about killing your pet, you must put him before yourself and end his suffering. the pain that he is dealling with will not get better, but your grief will. If you truly love him as I am sure that you do, do the right thing

Do you have dogs and cats and a vet you take them to regularly? If you do, just call up and ask if they will put your chicken to sleep. I had to do that with one of my hens once. My vet did it for free.

Or you can post on Craigslist, I'm sure some kind (and calloused) soul will come do it for you!

I hope your morning sickness gets better soon! I've been there. I barely moved, except to dry heave, for 3 months last time. I don't know how you managed to look at poop and maggots while in that state! Have you tried vitamin b6? It helped me a lot!

Yeah, I decided to just suck it up and kill him myself. Its awful but the only thing I could handle was tying a shoelace around his neck as tight as I could and walking away. I havent checked on him yet, but he seemed like he was gasping a little bit.

I just couldnt handle lopping his head off, I dont have the equipment to do it completely...

My poor rooster.

Good grief - that is awful for this poor roo - all of it. A vet could have made death so much quicker than this. And he could have been treated for infection before it got this bad (having to move him around each day does not seem to indicate "unscathed"). You describe him as a much loved pet - couldn't someone have helped you when you realized he was not well (not necessarily a vet), since you were not feeling up to any of this? This is so terribly sad.

I'm really sorry not to just say I'm sorry - right now my heart breaks for the roo.

You could of tried the baking soda and peroxide method. I used it and it just puts them to sleep fairly quick. I used a old cooler put in a wire bottom filled the bottom with baking soda and peroxide and put a nice fluffy towl down on top layed my girl inside and shut the lid.

I tried that once before with a very sick cochin pullet and for whatever reason it didnt kill her. It made her retarded, and then I felt so bad for her I couldnt do anything but keep her, I just dont like that method after that mishap.
