Some brooder questions!

I'm also wondering how to keep them from smelling bad, because I heard that's a common problem. I read on this forum that someone used Sweet PDZ with sand, but couldn't find the thread again. Any advice?

Baby chicks are pretty stinky especially the first few weeks. The probiotics in cultured buttermilk or yogurt mixed into the starter feed every second day for the first week will help make the poops firmer and less stinky and cleaning the brooder a few times a day will help.

Personally I think that wood shaving make the stink worse. 'Stall dry' or 'sweet PDZ' reduce the poop odor but it makes lots more dust then wood shavings.
