I have a group of about 30 chickens distributed between three 10 x 10 dog kennels in barn. They are released daily and closed up at night owing to GHO. Now that it is getting really cold I am seeing two behavior patterns with respect to feed consumption. Immature / juvenile birds are feeding voraciously as are the mature American Dominique hens. The mature games and game crosses (all hens) are barely touching good and perching up watching other birds. I see this almost every year. Those non-feeding hens will continue this for a couple days before they come done and start hitting feed hard as well. The odd birds out are in very good weight but will drop a bit over next couple days. They will also be prone to fly a lot and will land up on my shoulder if I do not watch out.

I've also noticed a decrease in feed consumption during a cold snap.
Always thought it odd, but they ramp back up after a day or two.
