So today, around 8 pm, we opened the coop to show my mom something.
And we look at each other and go 'wait.......we only had two training eggs, right?'

And we all crowded around the open nesting boxes.
And pulled out a long, skinny egg from the bottom of our nesting box.

That's right! Tonight, we got our very first egg!
Fully developed shell, no weird colors, nothing strange at all.

We cracked it into the frying pan.

And we were met with our second surprise!

Our VERY FIRST EGG had a DOUBLE YOLK!

Also it tasted AMAZING but it was still awesome to see.

What are your guys' first egg stories?

First egg was yesterday, Oct 20, from a 20 week and 1 day old flock of 15 pullets and 1 cockerel of mixed breeds. Our egg was also a double yolker!

Hmm... first egg story....

A few years ago I got my very own first batch of pullets. My grandpa had raised them till almost laying age, then I purchased 12 of his 20.

One day, my grandpa came from town, and showed me his three little pullet eggs. I hadn't yet seen any from my birds, so it seemed as if his birds had "won."

That same day, I went out back (this was when my chickens had a "fence-free" free range), and low and behold I found some eggs out in some tall grass.... What was it... 4 eggs?

So, I called up my grandpa, and bragged to him about finding my eggs. And so my egg business began. 78 is the most chickens I've had at one time. I'm down to 69 currently. I'm usually collecting 30 some eggs a day. Praise the Lord!!
