Anyone's guess as to what these boxes were used for -- eggs with egg flat protectors, maybe ?

Have been wracking my brain......can't come up with anything absolute.
Could have been egg flats.....or if they were a hatchery, chicks too?
Eggs in, chicks out<shrugs>
