OK, so now more destruction. we covered the hole where the critter came into the barn, but last night all but 4 of the not-even-a-week-old chicks were killed. Some had their heads eaten off. They were in grocery carts with chicken wire around the back. the critter either ate or pushed through the wire to get to the chicks.
The hole in the dirt it made is about 8 inches across.
I'm thinking fox. what do you guys think.
NOW I'M MAD.
Could be a Rat or Weasel? I believe Weasels are known for drinking the blood and leaving the rest, usually bites the neck area
Both Rats and Weasels can fit threw very small places.
Try setting rat traps along the walls but bury most of the trap so they don't go around and put a bit of chicken liver blood on the trap ""From the store of course""

I still think it is a racoon. They are very good at reaching through wire.
Can you set a trap? or wait up for it? Am sure it will be back, whatever it is. Hope you get it!
when I have problems with critters I use canned sardines for bait .
works with a live trap or rat trap.and for most critters .
Sardines are mushy so I wrap the sardine in a bag and wire it to the trigger
.
And peanut butter mixed with rat poison is pretty tasty for mice and rats .
I killed a rat with a mouse trap before .
I also had a rat that would trip the trap and put a bow from christmas on top of it .
NO JOKE.
That rat did that three times and on the forth time I had a victor legtrap ready and that caught the rat..
