Today, I am cleaning up after a hatch, (two little chicks running around in the outside world just like it was not 53 degrees out) and getting ready for winter.
When cleaning out the nests, I was reminded how much I like this hack. Line your nests with cardboard, then bedding. If there is a wreck in there such as a broken egg, you can just lift the whole thing out. I read it here years ago, cannot remember who to give credit too, but well worth sharing again.
I am ready for winter. Gave the coop a broom-ing out, fresh hay there, cleaned out the nests. Set up the sun porch in the run (repurposed shower doors) and another wind shelter. Added hay to the run too. I don't cover the run floor, just pile it in areas. The chickens scratch it around, and I pile it back up so I can flip it on top of snow after a storm. Makes great mulch for the garden come spring.
