Some people! A vent about selling eggs

I'm sick, I'm tired and I'm stressed, so I need to vent.

I sell our free range eggs to the officers at the PD, the sheriff's office and city hall employees at a discount, $1.00 a dozen. Everyone else pays $2.50.

Last night DH brought me some egg orders. One of the jailers wants 5 dozen, not a problem. One of the trustees (inmates) wants a dozen, only because he won't believe DH about chickens laying green and pink eggs. Not a problem. I like surprising people and making them smile, so the trustee may just get his dozen green and pink eggs for free.

The problem is the deputy that asked for 4 dozen. He told DH that he wants only BROWN eggs, no speckles, no green or pink eggs, and he want them all to be large or extra large.

My hens and pullets are not machines! I load the cartons as I bring them in from the coops. Sure, some of the eggs are only medium in size (mainly from my pullets), but some are extra large; larger than you'd get in a carton full of jumbos at the grocery store. To me, it all evens out.

How do you handle someone that's going to get picky about eggs at a dollar a dozen???

ughhh.. dont sell them to him! shoot for a 1$ a dozen he should be happy with bantam eggs!!! I would say you get what you get-whatever is laid you get sorry its the only way I can accomodate you at all. some people are so stinking rude and petty sorry for you

Obviously, he is not interested in farm fresh eggs..he wants "perfect" eggs. I'd mention the grocery store to him...

I am sorry on the special price of $1 there are no substitution , or special requests... if you want the all brown XL eggs you pay the full price and BTW there is a waiting list!... backsidehat.. I dont care if hes a cop or not thats rude!

You are not a grocery store. The expectations of perfect sized eggs with no blood spots does not go with backyard flocks. Does he want factory farm eggs or free range eggs? He needs to decide this.

If you're not hurting for customers I would flat out tell him that unfortunately you will do your best but you have no idea what you will get from your hens on any given day and that is the best you can offer. Actually I would probably flat out tell him that my hens do not take requests but he is welcome to try.

Brown eggs, NO SPECKLES, no pink or green eggs. Yeesh. Sounds like a boring old fart. Who doesn't want fancy eggs like that!?

I would just tell him, if he wishes to only have Brown Large eggs the price for them will be $X.XX. How much extra work etc. is it worth?

Just keep packing them the way you always do. If they don't like them, somebody else will.
