Some people! A vent about selling eggs

I would send a note to him with or without a dozen eggs letting him know you are unable to complete his request of specific type/color/size as you do not have a huge egg production to pick through.

I usually give my best looking eggs to the neighbors unless they are calling and all I have is speckled, bumpy, various size/color.

If people want PERFECT looking eggs they can get those at the store, but I think my less than perfect looking eggs taste way better than the store ones.

And what the heck he isn't eating the shells ,so who cares what they look like?!?!?!? Size ok I can get that, but again we only have so much to work with. And at $1 even small FRESH eggs is a great deal.

I agree tell him those are $6 a dozen and there is a waiting list and ask if he wants to be put on it, and see what his reply is....

Give 'em one of these.

I would tell him exactly what you just told us, only nicer. Just say "Well, unfortunately they lay what they lay, and given the HUGE discount I give you guys, you're going to have to take what's available".

You could print off a note to go in the carton (packed as you normally would) explaining that if they didn't mind waiting for you to gather the eggs as requested and paying a premium for the extra labor invlved you'd be happy to honor the request. Explain that the shells are just shells, the insides are all the same. Explain that they are already getting a discount, and special orders cost X.XX. Or you could get hubby to help you field those kinds of requests too. He can explain when people talk to him about it that they come as they are...

Raise the price to $2.50

$1 for the eggs
$1.50 for the special handling.

Honest, when people have been THIS rude to me, I sigh, hold out my hand and go, "That'll be $2 in tax, sir." usually they shut up pretty quick.

But I probably would not do this to a cop.

Ah, who am I kidding, I would.

We just got back from a trip to DH's grandparents. They told me one of their neighbors has chickens that they buy eggs from. I was SO excited to see green and brown speckled eggs in the fridge!!

I am currently talking with a guy who wants to buy 6-8 of my hens. I mentioned that some will lay brown eggs, some will lay green eggs. Suddenly he's not sure about this at all...... it's the green egg thing. So tomorrow, DH will be taking in hardboiled eggs for his snack, to be eaten ONLY when this guy is around. One will be green, one will be brown. He either gets it or he doesn't.

I say raise his price if he wants "hand-selected" eggs.
