I stand firm in my belief that silkies ride the short bus. My polish isn't very smart, but at least he doesn't stand in the middle of the duck pond u to his neck in water ALL DAY everyday. I finally had to move the silkies to the OEG pen. My cochin is cunning too.

I have a family member that used to care for his boss's chickens. Every time he sees me watching a video of ducks or chickens, he can't believe it because "they just birds".
 
I just say to people that the reason I like chickens is because its the only animal I have ever had that was capable of buying its own feed. Truly the girls have enough extra eggs to sell that the feed gets paid for each week. Thats smart enough for me!

What good are they?

Chickens make a good pet for me. So much better that
say....a Emu or something.
 
A friend I haven't seen in many years saw on my Facebook page that I had chickens. He said "I'm surprised you have chickens". I wrote back, "Why?" and he wrote "because they are such filthy animals".

I was really insulted actually, but had to remind myself that he was the ignorant one. Then he later came to visit and saw the chickens and went into the coop. I said to him "See? They don't look filthy do they? Everything here is clean." He agreed. I said, "When's the last time you've seen chickens, anyway?" He said never!!! Can you imagine the nerve? How can you say an animal is filthy that you've never actually seen in person!?!?
