Some people are rude!

He also knew in the first place I may not be able to make it either day. He never took down his first add, now he has two up. I live about 2 hours away from him, it had just snowed about a foot and a half a day before I was going and I live on top of a mountain that gets awful! I too have been on both sides and I would never be so rude! I have had people say they are coming and never do, then I get an email they are coming next week and I never hear from them again. When I sell something and have more then one person interested I simply tell them I have someone else that said they wanted them first, and if that falls through you get the next chance. In my opinion it was his own fault for telling the other people they were sold, not mine!

Uh oh, I feel myself really wanting to enter this fray...

Mostly because I was showing some rental units for a friend last year, and I could not BELIEVE how many people made an actual appointment at a specific time on a certain day and then either didnt' show up at all, or called an hour ahead and gave a lame excuse why they couldn't come or why they had to reschedule. It was about 40 percent of the 25 or so people who called me. I interpreted it as incredible narcissistic behavior, where the person only thinks about themselves and feels no accountability for holding to their word. Yes, it very occassionally will happen to me where I can't make an appointment, but I am profusely apologetic and try to let the person know as soon as I know that i can't come. If this is a standard MO for someone, to change plans if they don't 'feel like' coming through, I would have nothing to do with them again. Someone like that is just difficult to deal with in general, I've found, especially if they need to pay money or be on time. You must be considerate of other people's time and effort, puhlease!!!

Ahhhh, the perils of craigslist!! The seller should not have sent such a snotty email to you nor should he have told any interested party that they were sold when they weren't... That is all on him and don't give him a second thought if he's going to have a 'tude! Why give him the power to make you feel crappy?

However, as a frequent seller on cl, I wouldn't have gotten past the word "might" regarding when you could come get the turkeys. I think it was great that you contacted him and told him that you could not make it either day and that you would be happy to put a deposit on them. That is when I would have considered you to be a serious buyer for the turkeys as a seller...when you offered a deposit and tried to make specific arrangements to get the birds. I would definitely get birds from someone other than him unless you truly just have to have those particular birds. Just my two cents...
