Some people just shouldn't be allowed to own animals!!

you poor dear im sorry this women and her mistreatment has put you in such a bad position. i understand your a caring wonderful person and you probably dont want to put her in a bad position but she has put herself there i think. i hope you do report her but also remember that this isnt being mean or rude. your within your right! and she is not! if or when you do report her dont be mad at yourself and dont blame yourself for anything all of this is her fault because she is treating her animals like "toys" i agree with eveyone else you should report her but i also say your a wonderful person for taking care of those poor animals please take care of them and protect them for all of us

WOW! It's so easy for us to say "report her!" BUT, how many of us would just take care of the chicks rather than see them harmed. Reporting a neighbor is BIG step... BUT, it IS something that must be done for the sake of the animal/children/situation...

Unfortunately, the person that is being reported rarely sees anything wrong with what they are doing and therefore resents being turned in. It really is a viscous cycle.

Right now, I'm dealing with a co-worker that recently decided to get her daughter some chicks from a local chicken swap... She went with the idea of getting a few chicks. She came home with 4 silkies, 4 ducks, and 4 RIR Chick's... All of them went into a 2ft x 2ft box with the same feed and water... No lamp for heat, and then she is surprised when two of the silkies were dead the next morning...!!!

How can you get a new little creature and then not learn how to take care of it....???

I told her that she DEFINITELY needed a heat lamp to help prevent piling and that she should brood them by species...

The next morning she said the other two silkies had died, too... And that they were going to return the heat lamp because it didn't seem to work!!!

I told her to NOT return the lamp and that it was needed... What else CAN we do? She just didn't seem bothered by any of it... Like "oh well, another silkie died"...

Being firm with people about the care and attention these little guys need is the first step... However, changing their mindset is something entirely different. If they can't raise poultry, "how on earth are they raising kids?"
