Some people know EVERYTHING! A little dog related rant.

Many people associate coat patterns with breeds instead of physical structure and behavior. I've seen many people call bird dogs dalmation mixes for the simple fact that the dog had specks or spots in the pattern. Anything that is black with brown eyebrows, chest, and legs of course is a rotty and so forth. It's a common occurance for people to argue the breed of a dog simply over color. This guy may not have recognised the merle pattern and if it's not a solid color then of course it surely can't be a dane.

It happens ALL the time with all kinds of animals. Cuckoo Marans are barred rocks, barred rocks are dominiques. Anything red is a rhode island red. Any duck with a mallard pattern is a mallard, nevermind that it's 2-3 times the size of an actual mallard. Any cat that has siamese cat markings must be a siamese and any cat that's grey is a russian blue. Any black cow must be an angus. And so on and so forth.

It's just a simple case of people associating color with breed.

I've heard that too. I shave mine every May. When they start to grow out it is wavy. People are just sure they are giant poodles.

I get the same kind of questions with my tri-colored Border Collie and my Blue Merle Border Collie, because, as everybody knows, Border Collies only come in black and white, so mine must be mixes; not that there's anything wrong with mixes, but all four of my Border Collies are purebred and in four of the many colors that they come in. It's fun, isn't it?

Don't feel bad. I had a guy run across the parking lot when I was walking my dog to ask me if he was a Cous Cous.

Umm... Cous Cous is a grain dish. Did he mean Kuvasz? My dog is a Pyr mix.

I have also been asked if he was a poodle.

Well be prepared, if you own a large male dog you have unknowingly entered into a "my dog is bigger then your dog" contest. Seriously I think that is what I got more then anything else when I take my boy out in public (not lately, poor Havoc's age is catching up to him). Of course they never have their dog w/ them, and I always found it strange that I only got that w/ Havoc, never Iris, was she exempt because she's a girl?
