Some people know EVERYTHING! A little dog related rant.

They asked if that was one of those expensive mixes

I also got that on my Belgian Tervuren. Folks would ask what breed it was, when I told them, they'd say. so, that is
'german shepherd and what?' or 'coliie and what?'

Our great dane's ears are natural and it does throw people off some times as to what her breed is, but i've never had anyone argue with me over what she is.

I don't know about your area, but around here i think people are so used to seeing poor quality breeding in the majority of dogs and don't recognize when they see a dog with breed standards.

I get this with my SABLE German Shepherds - everyone KNOWS that GSDs are only black/tan or worse black/silver... Or the BLACK Shepherd was obviously a LAB MIX.

Excuse me - Shepherds started as sable, thank you. I prefer the East German and Czech dogs in dark sables so of course mine are "part wolf" or something. It never fails. Particularly with my black sable.

People just make me go hmmmmmmm.

Beautiful dog there. Unless someone is really into dogs or watches the dog shows on tv I could totally see them answer back that way because they just don't know. Again it's all in the tone as to whether they are being dumb or just not educated. I think my question for you should be when someone doesn't get that you're telling them the dog isn't a mix do you elaborate a little about the breed. Like saying the XXXXXX is a breed recognized by AKC (or another organization) that been around for many years and is bred for XXXXXX purpose. (I actually find that sort of information very interesting)

While uneducated polite inquiries are cool.

It's the idiots who INSIST that they KNOW better than you do that's generally frustrating and hilarious.

It HAS to be a wolf mix because THEY have never seen a shepherd colored like that before and their UNCLE had a "wolfmix" (husky or malamute mix) colored JUST like that.

John Q Public is often convinced of facts not in evidence. That's when it's as sad as it is funny and infuriating.

I just don't get what the hang up about color is that would make someone think a dog is mixed if the body is definately all dane, GS or fill in the blank breed. Lots of breeds come in lots of colors. Tho people who don't know don't get that blue is a color classification or that a GS can be sable or even blond it's also the body that really tells the breed (to me at least). Like that pic of that Blue Dane. Looks black to me but that doesn't matter because Blue is what it is recognized as and it's body is totally a Dane.

I had a white Border Collie when I was a kid. This dog - instead of having the black patterning, had freckles instead... so people would argue with me that it was an English Setter mix and I got "taken" from the breeder I bought the dog from.

I bought an Appaloosa colt a while back. Apps can be born solid colors, and morph out into something totally weird. He was born black and began to turn white with spots... again, people laughed and said he was part Paint, and I'd gotten "taken" for the money I spent!!!

Maybe next time someone wants to "educate" you about YOUR dog, you should just pretend you didn't hear... smile and turn up the volume on your ipod!

I have a white boxer who is big for breed and has a wicked underbite. People constantly tell me that his is a bulldog. Uh, he is about two feet too tall to be a bulldog. I didn't even buy this dog- I adopted him. the person I adopted him from had no motivation to lie about his breed.
