Some pictures of my flock...

Mitzi......I'm expanding my flock and hopefully will start selling at a local farmers market here this spring....instead of just to friends and family. When you sell your eggs, do you seperate them by color or just have a mix in the cartons?

wow, what a beautiful, diverse flock you have! Your blue cochin is beautiful, and I adore your boy in the first picture, I ove it when they still have some barring but other colors going on as well (crele is my fave color)

beautiful birds!

Katy...
I keep the colors mixed in an egg basket like my avatar except it is the large size basket…that’s the medium size in the picture. I give 2 or 3 green/blue eggs and 1 or 2 white eggs and the rest brown in each dozen. Some times they ask for all brown…I try and not give all green/blue eggs because they are a real draw for people buying and I want to be able to give everyone a couple of them. I also don’t sell them in cartons. I put them in a brown paper bag. I had a rubber stamp made with my logo and info. I stamp each bag with it…they come out very nice. I do keep some cartons and if someone asks I will put them in a carton…but most people have no problem with the brown bag and I always add at least one or sometimes 2 extra eggs to the dozen in the bag. I debated on how to keep my eggs to sell and finally decided on the egg baskets because the eggs look so pretty in them and they are very eye catching. Some people that don’t need eggs end up buying them just cause they “Look” so pretty…then they keep coming back to get them once they taste them.

I bag and pick out the eggs; every now and then someone will want to pick their own or will say I want that one. I try and make sure I give them a good variety of color and size and for the most part everyone is happy with that…I guess that was more info than you were asking for

…Good Luck I hope you do well!

Thanks! Kanchii, sara and countyboy!

You should hatch some eggs you can never tell what you will get. I love the color variety I have too much white in my flock now need to balance it out LOL.

Thanks for sharing the info. Do you wrap them in something before you put them in the bag? I'd worry about them breaking. I do like the bag idea.....sure would be cheaper than cartons!!

Katy...No I don't wrap them...Just gently place them in the bag. But I do, like I said, give them one or two extras so if they were to have one crack they have the free extras. If they say they are worried about dropping them or breaking them; I tell them if you drop or break them "before" you leave here I will replace them...once you are gone you are on you own. Most people laugh and are good sports about it. I have only ever had to replace one bag...a mother gave them to her 5 year old and she dropped them. If I start to put them in a bag and they say, oh you don't have cartons? I ask if they would prefer a carton...if they say yes I give them one. I usually only bring about 6 to 8 cartons and I never have used them all and some of my regular customers bring there own carton. It has worked out fine for me.

Thanks! HenHappy and hcammack...I have hatched a few out, and they have been interesting but I prefer the pure breeds so I try and stick to them.
