I have always loved peafowl and have recently started taking keen interest and doing some research in order to move forward from my pair of IBs.

I was awestruck (like everyone else ofcourse) when I discovered the muticus muticus. However, now I am twice as much bamboozled by all the theories. Since I really would like to have some of my own eventually, I was hoping someone could answer these questions:

1. Does anyone even have pure blood? Who has pure bloodline in the US, Europe and Asia. Who has the best stock out of these three regions?

2. Did Wolfgang have pure blood? I read somewhere he has 'composite' stock. What is composite stock?

3. Is it true that the muticus muticus is divided further into more subspecies? If so, what are they and how are they differentiated?

4. What happened to the consevation project in Malaysia? Read somewhere the stock they got Germany and UK wasn't pure after all?

I would be very grateful if someone could answer these question. Thank you for your time in advance!!

On the Java Island ( Indonesia ) for me there are 2 different sub-species:
1 - in the two National Parks of Baluran and Alas Purwo on the east side of the island.
2 - a different sub-specie in the National Park of Ujong Kulon on the West side of the Island.

On the peninsula of Malaysia two different sub-species :
1 - Pavo Muticus muticus Europa .... coming fron UK ( Quinton Spratt ) and from Germany ( Wolgang ) .

2 - Friedrich Esser say on and other forum :
" I've just come back from a trip from southern Thailand.
I hear from some Thai people, that of the Thai side near by the border to malyisa some peacocks from this species Pavo muticus-muticus are seen. I hope that the Thai government now check this info."
It is probably the ' real Pavo Muticus muticus from Malaysia.

In Java you can get pur Muticus muticus on the local 'craigslist' :

I have been wanting gren peafowl for a few years and in my searching for pure ones in the US my favorite ones are Read Mountain Peafowl (they are on facebook) and Rocking BAB Ranch here in Florida (they have a website). I was able to visit the BAB and they have all three subspecies of greens. They certainly were the quality of what I am looking for, but they are expensive so it will be a while before I get imported offspring from them. As for other regions Wolfgang, Friedrich Esser, and Reinhold are good ones.

Some say Wolfgang mixed a few subspecies or something, but I personally think his birds look good.

The subspecies have been divided up mainly even more regionally specific and they differ in many cases just slightly. Everyone mainly goes by the three subspecies, but also there is the Pavo muticus muticus not to be confused with the Java muticus muticus which you have to take into account.
