My dad tells this story of a guy he once knew that suffered from drop-in relatives. They would come unannounced and stay forever. Finally he fell upon a solution. The next time the ingrates showed up he very sweetly welcomed them in and served them a nice dinner. After dinner he put all the plates on the counters and whistled for the dog. In zipped the puppy and on the counters he went. He promptly licked them all clean. The man then put them all away in the cabinets. The drop-in guests never dropped in again.
The man told dad that it took him two days to train the dog to clean the plates. It took him two months to break him of the habit, but that it was totally worth it just seeing the expressions on the "guests" faces. HA!
