Somebody tie me down!

You don't have to open the incubater to mess around with unhatched eggs or the shells. Just take out one of the red plugs for the top vent, get yourself some long wooden skewers ( like for the BBQ) and reach in through the hole. I learned this from my 10 year old MMR daughter. Cought her in the act after I threatened her life if she opened the incubater. She also used the eraser end of a pencil. Brilliant!! Now I just have to make sure she's not around to catch me in the act!!

Yeah, I do that too; only I use a long plastic chopstick. It helps to move the eggshells around. The problem was when the eggshell wouldn't move the way I wanted it to. If I got frustrated, I would take off the top and move them by hand. I have one of the round incubators with a clear dome on top, i.e., it's a BrowerTHI-20, so I can see everything that's going on, and it was easy to slide the top/hole around to anyplace I wanted to work with the chopstick without taking the top off. From now on ... I mean the next time ... I don't care if I see a chick slit its throat on an eggshell or trapped between eggs, I ain't doin' nuttin! They're on their own for as long as three day.
