Someone please help Gimpy Chick! Bled out again, cheating death again!

Gimpy Chick cheated death tonight again for the third time. I think she's going to be okay. But I have to believe she's anemic at this point (this is the second time she's bled out to the point of incoherentness) what can I do to get her iron count back up?

And... that thing on the side of her head- it bleeds like holy hell fire- thats how she keeps bleeding out, some are calling it proud flesh, some are calling it an abcess, but theres no sign of infection. It just bleeds when its punctured or scratched. Its hard and its like a huge blood blister atop her ear thats the size of a baby lima bean and it wraps around to the back of her skull.

Is there anything I can do to help it heal or go away? I had put blukote on it yesterday, and it probably itched from healing or something and she scratched it open.

I took the tip of her toe nail off on that side, the one coated in blood from scratching it open, and filed it blunt so hopefully we dont have a repeat of such a thing.

I am including really pathetic pictures. She looks even worse in real life, and this is AFTER I hand cleaned her up. The inside of her tupperware home looked like a chicken exploded in it...

Poor gal. I've never been attached to any small creature- but I actually feel like I could conjure up a tear for her. I feel bad for the poor thing- she thinks I can fix her.

Poor baby!!! I'm going to go from nothing on the history of this thing- do chickens ever get skin problems like hemangiomas?

I think it may be one- like a blood blister, but really just a jumble of little blood vessels. It would take nothing to make one of those bleed like crazy, because of the amount of blood available for loss in a case like that.

The thing I could do if it was me and mine would be to go to the vet and offer to do whatever to pay for the treatment that would be necessary, because it will likely involve some concentrated cauterization.

I'm not sure if you have access to a vet, or one who would treat a chicken, but I hope it works out for you and this little one!!!

It has to be from the pecking- some sort of resulting injury, because one moment the chick was normal, and five minutes later it was bloody and then developed this little lump which later grew after the second trauma.

Oh my gosh she survived the night! I really was trying to convince myself she just might maybe make it, but i didnt really think she would!

man! Little chicken!

i cut the sticky parts from a band aid and put them right on that abcess, i think that'll keep her from scratchnig it open again.

I do not know if this will help you any at all, but in reading about pinioning ducklings I've learned that a pinch of baking soda to the wound helps staunch the bleeding. This may help you if and when she (and I hope never again) starts bleeding again. Also, can you believe this, spider webs applied to a wound stop bleeding. If you're like me you hate spiders, but I do have lots of webs around that seem to have been abandoned (at least I hope). In an emergency I love knowing this obsolete types of things.
I've never seen anything like this so I can't add more - wish I could.

One other thing regarding the iron - spinach has lots of iron in it. Do you think you could get her to eat some? Also, there is a product called red cell. I haven't checked into it yet, but it sounds as though from the name that it does some fortifying of the blood. Maybe check that out...

i will try some spinach on her, and look into the redcell stuff... I cant believe that little chicken is still alive!
