someone please help? Ideal ticked us off.

thanks yall.
the deformed one is a "peanut" and im not interesting in putting blame on Ideal or getting a refund. i was just confused as to why they sent us a deformed one. like they saw it, didnt want to deal with it, so they gave it to someone else who would have to.

actually i think theyre starting their peaking order and this little guy is at the head of them!
hes a littly bully.
hes eating and drinking fine, but all he does is churp louder than the others and he hasnt grown at all since arriving. im afraid hes in pain, but as soon as i stick my head over the brooder, hes poking at another chicken

i think hes going to make it, but im scared that we wont find a good home for him.

mamobaby-

So sorry about this! What a pain.....

My advice to you is to give away all or any that you know are not the ones you ordered. We've learned the hard way that it's VERY difficult to give chicks away once they've been around a few weeks. They really grow on you, and you'll become increasingly concerned that they go to a really good home, etc. (We got 6 and can only keep a couple...)

If I were you I'd put an ad on Craigslist and/or Freecycle (local yahoo group) and give away all the chicks you know are boys, or not the breeds you ordered. If you're new to chickens and need help determining breeds, just post photos here and lots of people will help you figure it out.

Besides the issue of becoming attached to them, 17 chicks are going to need a LOT of space, very soon. Our 6 were outgrowing a brooder with about 20 sq feet floor space by 6 weeks or so. Plus, they will eat a lot of feed!!!! And, they will smell a lot more than 3 chicks, and require more constant cleaning. Lastly, you won't get to spend as much time bonding with your 3 if there are so many others. All reasons, in my opinion -especially since you only want 3 city pets- to try to re-home as many as you possibly can, as soon as you possibly can.

Good luck to you and let us know how it goes!

Sounds to me like Popeye is probably set!

He's probably the only one named, already has a stand out personality and is top of the pecking order. I bet he'll make a great pet! Hopefully, he's a she and you can keep him/her. I wouldn't worry about him being in pain. He's eating, he's drinking, and he's picking on the other chicks. Sounds like he's having a great time! If he was in pain, I think he'd be in the corner laying down feeling bad, and the other chicks would be bullying him! As long as he is eating, drinking, and getting around ok, I think he's fine.

Good luck rehoming your peanuts!

Sad News:

We dont think our littly Popeye is gonna make it.
We had to give him some mashed up rice, and send him to a different box with a littly stuffed friend.
its really depressing for all of our family, seeing as how we got attachted to him so quickly.
No its not the only one names, but he is the only one of our little "peanuts" named. We really wished he didnt have to go through with this. But the sooner he dies the better.
Its so weird and random too, seeing as how he was just peaking at the other chicklets just yesterday!
hes not pooping either, but no pasting up. So he hasnt been eating.
Yall please keep our littly Popeye in your hearts. he'll be in ours<33

another thing,
my little chicks have been messing with the paper towels and eating them.
theyre only about 6 days old now, and i was wondering if it was safe for them.

I wouldn't let him suffer the lonelyness of being separated. Just grab him up and give his little head and swift jerk and twist.

No more suffering and in no time you'll feel better he's not suffering.

Good luck with your chicks and peanuts.

uhm im sorry, but im vegan.
im raising chicks as pets, not to to play with them as my own personal killing toy. plus, this is my familys pets. i wouldnt dare.

Wow, this is going too far.

I personally wouldn't put it down either.
She said she's not sure if he's going to make it,
i've said that before and had them pull through.

Catfish it sounds like you are the immature one. Leave her alone.

Good luck with little Popeye. I'll be sending good vibes your way. Don't pay attention to people who tell you to snap a baby chick's neck like it's no big deal. Most people here are not so insensitive. Keep trying and don't give up. I have a pet Cornish X named Bobo. I was told he would only live about 5 weeks and either have a heart attack or his legs would give out. He is 6 weeks + and doing great. He gets lots of exercise outside and is the leader of the flock. They also like to snuggle him since he's so warm. Best wishes with your new chicks and good luck finding home for the peanuts. I'm sure someone will want them. Who can resist cute little chicks!

I am watching my babies hatch right now!

catfish people can make their own decisions I understand what you are saying but it would be great if you could word your opinions in a less abrasive way. Mamobaby if he really starts to take a turn for the worse could you possibly take him to someone else who could do it. I do believe that if an animal is in pain even if it is your pet you should prevent suffering by ending its life. That is just my opinion though.

Good Luck with popeye,
Henry

Now lets ALL be civil and quit taking shots at each other. This is a family forum and I assume we all know how to behave like adults.
