Someone started crowing

It was an oversight on my part. When asked how old they are, my first instinct is to say their current age. I hope this helps others posting in the future. The picture order may be jumbled. Current pictures:
Easy mistake to make! I always have to stop and think about mine when I post pics too.

I believe all Wyandottes pictured are cockerels.

I see only one that looks like a pullet, but it's body formation says cockerel. Might be a late bloomer. Talking about the more solid blue one.

I think that one is just a late bloomer. It's got patchy/leaky color over the wing bows too.
That is the pattern, some partial lacing. Female Wyandottes have lacing in that area too.

I'm just not seeing the shoulder patch yet.

So yeah, still most likely a late bloomer.

Can I just say that it blows me away that you are able to judge these things. The pictures birds are Wyandotte mixes, so I am still learning terminology and things like this. I purchased them locally from someone who is breeding for color, so they are blends of a few different things. I expect this is why there is leaky/patchy coloring in the wings.

Are there any good resources for reading about color patterning, or does most of the knowledge come from experience. Before I even posted to this sub forum, I was reading previous posts and examining the pictures from others and seeing if I could pick up on the subtle hints of gender, but I was not very accurate 😂

This just makes me appreciate specialized Internet forums that much more.

In my opinion, nothing beats experience. Keep reading on this forum though. Lots and lots of knowledge to find here!
