someone tried to poison my babies!!!!!

That is AWFUL!! I agree with all the others.....get pictures and call the police. I just don't understand why people do these things. They must have horrible, loveless lives. I'll keep my fingers crossed for your little peeps.

Also make a sign that says ~ "This property is under camera surveillance 24 hours." They won't know whether you have a camera or not.

And everyone around me would know what happened. People talk, and info gets let out of the bag. Sorry this happened to you.

Actually you should not be so quick to just suspect juveniles. Some adults can be mean and sneaky. Especially if they don't like the idea of someone having chickens. Report it to the police and possibly get a deer camera.

Have you had any complaining neighbors, or just ones you do not get along with?

First things first. Make sure you clean the coop very well and call the police to make a report. Keep the empty jugs to show the police.

Next thing you have to get defensive. Look up the "posted" land laws in your area and you need to post "No Tresspassing" signs on your land. I know the laws here in NC are that there needs to be a sign at least every 600 yards and at every corner in order for land to be considered posted. Purchase locks, for your gates and coop, you need to make it as inaccessable as possible.

You should really, truly look into purchasing a security camera, you'd actually be surprised how affordable they are. You do not need anything extremely high tech, just something you can point at your coop to catch any perps. You can also post signs or survellance and set up phony cams that blink and attract attention. But, in my opinion, if you are going through that much trouble, you might as well get a true functioning camera that can be invaluable evidence in a case like this.

Just a comment on the camera. We used to have a video camera in the goat barn so we could tell when does were going into labor. We got so much entertainment out of that camera. The animals don't act the same when you are not around as they do when you are there. It was fun to watch their antics and social interaction during the day. Much more interesting than most of what is on TV.
Cameras are a lot cheaper now than they were then. It would be great if you could use it to catch the culprit. If you have a real camera, I would not put up a warning sign. I would not want to put them on notice. I would want to know who they are.

Yes I called the police He took the report and said he was going to inform animal control Not much they can do after the fact...We didnt see anyone and the dogs didnt hear anyone...we are going to get pad locks I never had to worry about my animals before...

Forget the camera signs. Post one saying intruders will be shot on site after dark. Then light up the sign. Even if you don't have a gun they won't be as likely to try again. We had some trouble a few years ago and i told the police in front of the teens that were involved that i wasn't afraid to shoot. We have had no trouble since.

Please don't jump so quickly to kids! Being 13, and friends with kids from 11-18, yes they can be cruel, but I know WAY more adults than kids that would do that.

And almost all the kids I know are pretty messed up. like doing drugs and stuff. So they're not even those goody goodies! I really hate it when adults suspect kids first! It really sucks, cuz a lot of the time kids aren't responsible for whatever incident they are blamed for! But its sad

that anyone could do such a thing! Contact the police and lets hope nobody is poisoned!

Doesn't sound like kids, more like some nasty old lady. Who did you tell you were getting chickens? Think back about this.

Keep the bottles, they have fingerprints on them. If anyone inquires about how your chickens are doing, mention that someone tried to poison them, but the bottles are being checked by the police for fingerprints. Watch to see who squirms.
