My hens are all about a year old with 3 chicks that were hatched in April. My Roo is older. I just treated one hen for eyp because she had that yellow poop. She’s better but still not 100%. My birds are laying less and I’m sometimes finding concerning poops. Deworm? Corks? What would you do? Otherwise behaving fine. 50767A5D-8CA1-4C89-A61D-78055C803379.jpeg 3D51BC3B-11B4-40AB-BD0E-521D0F7C523E.jpeg

Can you take a sample of poop to your vet for a fecal float?

If not, then deworming might be a good idea.

To treat most worms that poultry can have except for Tapeworm, use:

Safeguard dose is 0.23ml per pound of weight given orally once a day for 5 days in a row.
---OR---
Valbazen dose is 0.08ml per pound of weight given orally once, then repeated in 10 days.

The last time I ran a fecal at my vet they charged me $70 and it came back clear. So, yes I can, but the cost just feels a little absurd.

Further info I just treated my obviously unwell chicken w amoxicillin for 7 days because she was showing symptoms of EYP. I have lost a chicken before to this so I’m pretty familiar with these symptoms. She was better for a few days and now she has rattled breathing. Soooo I’m leaning more towards a URI that is hitting her hardest because her immune system is compromised.

Of course I have 2 days to figure this out before I go out of town for a little over a week to leave my partner in charge who has been around chickens for 2 years but doesn’t typically handle their care.

I have oregano oil and hydro hen on hand but I don’t believe I have any other medication on hand besides the amoxicillin (which is two years expired but stored in fridge).

I will probably try my hand at whatever holistic preventatives I have and will think about bringing in my sickest to try to get effective meds but then I’m looking at most likely over $100. I understand why meds are more restricted but it is INCREDIBLY frustrating that something could be done, but to spend so much on chickens is hard to justify.
