At my place there are fire ants that will swarm over any food or dead animal left on the ground. I have to place the opened cans of bait (cat food or sardines) inside larger dishes of water so there is a moat that the ants cannot cross. I put these dishes of bait on the ground between parallel 2X4s, and set the trap up on top of them, weighted down with a cinder block. I don't know how I could bait a trap with a dead raccoon without having the ants swarm over it. Do you think the urine/ammonia scent would work if I just pour it around the dish with the canned bait in it?
