Something killed my entire flock, didn't even leave a single chick

If you or anyone else has a serious dog problem I reccommend you build a really secure run welded wire and a secure coop then I would run a couple strands of chicken wire along the bpttom of the coop and run infact on my run I have one wire running around the coop about 4 inches up off of the ground and I have another wire a foot above that both are on the 5 in extended insulators that way a digger cant help but get a zing... For those of you who have a really really bad dog problem I would consider a second line of defense that being a free standing electric fence using fiberglass step in posts and 4 t- posts for secure corners put the wire on the lowest knotch of the step in posts and the next 3 or 4 up from there.... basically if anything gets in from there they have earned it!!!!! I use a superbee fencer but Im not sure thay are available... anyway if you go to TSC they have a fencer for 19 that would be OK for most apps but they also have one for 45 and if I had an agressive dog that would get the point across... personal experiance I have 2 curious dogs and both of them got into the fence once and now I cant even call them to me if Im near the coop....

that really stinks! I would be devastated, bless your heart.

As for talking to the neighbors, I'm sure there is a way to respectfully go talk to them without directly accusing. you sound rather mature for age, so I'm sure you could discuss it like rational adults.

I feel so bad for you

, that is just horrible I can't even imagine how devastated you must have been seeing what happened to your pets!!
Like some people have said ask your neighbor about their dog and maybe if they are honest, and caring people if there dog did have anything to do with what happened and they know it they may try to make up for it in some way. You can never tell, I suppose it could make them angry too I guess there is only one way to find out!
I'll bet with all the great folks here at BYC you'll have lots of eggs to get a new flock started, tho you will always miss your dear pets, again I am so so sorry!

Very sorry for your loss. Just like a few of you out there have said there's no proof of the neighbors dog doing this and she didn't state where she lives (Urban or Rural). I live in minnesota and many people have lost there flocks to Fishers this last fall winter and spring. These animals are in the weasel/mink family and will wipeout your whole flock killing every bird just for the thrill. Leaving behind the bloody distruction and all the dead bodies. Unlike fox and coyoties killing and carrying out their victims.

I hate to hear about your loss. It is great when kids your age go out and work for something.

Put a post on Craigslist and see if you can get some chicks on there. People like to help others.
