Our goose collected a nest of 3 goose eggs and 4 duck eggs. she started setting full time about a week ago and the other day we looked under her and she only had 2 goose and 2 duck eggs. We thought she crushed them but today we heard her honking and checked her nest. The final duck eggs were broke and no goose eggs left- no shell nothing.

We live in Alaska so we don't have possiums or raccoons. What could be getting her eggs while she's on the nest? She about takes my arm off when I go in there plus she has 3 other geese and 5 ducks living with her. I'm stumped- Any ideas?

We have huge Blk snakes here they can get to 6' long and I have seen them in our duck and goose house up under the pine shavings One that big could easily eat a goose egg.

We don't have snakes or rats in alaska. Just small mice, fox, squirrels and weasels. But the weird part is they are getting underneath her while she's setting.

I know my broody geese were not disturbed by another animal, and most of their eggs disappeared as well. We were just joking saying they absorbed them. But I think they broke and they ate the shells.

well if a weasel it would most likely kill and eat her. Iain Utah found a mink [kin to a weasel] killed one of her sitting geese. Now rats might be able to get under her but you'd think she'd freak out, I know I would.

Skunks are very common egg eaters and will take them right out from under sitting hens.

If not that then it is very possible she is crushing them and eating the pieces or even breaking and eating them herself (had a hen do that once as well.)

The person who posted this is from Alaska and they do not have raccoons, rats, I do not think they have skunks, not sure about snakes.

They have small mice, fox, squirrels and weasels.
