My 4 mo old gosling was swimming in the pond when my husband heard it screaming & the poor thing was almost drowned. We didnt see what had her. Her leg looks like it has 2 bite marks & it's possibly broken. I have 1 big catfish in the pond , some big mouth bass snapping turtles & 1 big carp fish in it. I know bass will eat baby ducks, but this goose is pretty big.

Has anyone ever heard of something like this happening? Any recommendations on how to treat her injuries? We have her confined in a small pen.
Thanks

I vote Turtle. Esp. if your baby has bite marks. Snapping turtles would do it...lucky gosling. Maybe he/she should avoid the pond if possible. I would give her an oral antibiotic for the bite marks and use a topical for her leg...cream if possible. I hope it isn't broken...poor little thing. If threeshorses is on and picks up on this post she'll know just what to do. Good Luck to you and your little gosling...

Theres a shooting club near here that has a pond with bigmouth bass and a gaggle of embden geese that live on it. They don't worry about the geese having babies because each spring the bass get them before they get too big

. But a 4 month old goose I'm not sure about...that's adult sized pretty much. If something will take on a nearly adult sized goose I wouldn't swim in there if I were you and certianly not kids.
