Something was hanging from my duck's butt-and it's not an egg!

actually you dont HAVE to let them be set and hatched. Just collect the eggs daily and use for eating/baking as normal. Just because an egg is laid does not mean it must be incubated and hatched.

Yes I know this, I had planned on using eggs for consumption. However, I think it would neat to experience hatching ducklings; just want everything to work out ok for the ducklings :)

Another goofy question: Say the duck lays a fertilized egg. If I collect the same morning it was laid, I can still eat it and it will be fine, right?

Also remember, if you hatch out ducklings there is a very good chance that some will be boys. Then you have to decide what you want to do with the extra boys. If you are not opposed to them being eaten, then it is probably no problem, but if you are like me, and could never allow that you might want to think a bit before hatching. It is hard to get rid of drakes. At least to good responsible homes, if you want them to be kept as pets and not be dinner. And while some keep a flock of drakes, it can be a bit difficult.

Ohhhh, I didn't think about that. Hmmm...definitely something to consider. Thank you for letting me know :)

This is what was hanging from my mallards bottom. I worry because she is away from the other ducks and that is so not like them. I tried to catch her but I was unable to and it fell off on its own. Any advice?

This isn't really important but one time my mucovey Drake just got dry from a bath and was standing by the girls pen and all of a sudden he sneezed /coughed and 'it' just fell out!!! i guess Drake's and men are a lot alike I just wanted to share the story of the duck that's not very in control of his thing. :D

Nowadays he's so top heavy he can't control most things. Such as walking. And 'other' things
