Hey you might recall that Pastel's crown was very buggy... at the beginning of the summer. Now it is even worse. I am worried it is going to get infected if I don't get help. I've been putting Blu-Kote on it. But I can not spray the wound. because it is near (and on his earlobe) and near his face and I do not want to bury him even more. PLEASE TELL ME WHAT I CAN PUT ON HIS CROWN WITHOUT HURTING HIM!

This works I personally use it on roosters and hens crowns and on eyelids. 4 drops of organic turmeric oil, 2 teaspoons honey, 2 tablespoons Bag Balm. Apply once daily 3 days or until condition improves. Tumeric oil is medicinal gold for skin disease, wounds and internally as for wellness/immunity boost. I will send pictures when I get the chance.
More on treating Pastel the Rooster. Turmeric oil is pH 6 close to pH of blood, honey has antiseptic properties as does Bag Balm. When these are used mixed together for topical treatment as I suggested it did no harm to my flock. It is NOT For Deep Wounds when a chicken might need stitches. An excellent website to teach chicken owners medical for poultry flocks is www.poultrydvm.org

Spray it with Vetericyn, available at Feed stores, TSC & online. I had a guinea years ago that was attacked by another guinea. He was so swollen I thought he had lost his eyes. I couldn't get close to him, but everyday a few times I would put the Vetericyn on spray & get his whole head from 10 or more feet away. He healed up perfectly,

Poor Guinea! I have a question that I am going to ask you in one second... I'm gonna get some pictures of Pastels crown and then once I come inside I will post the guinea question. Also I am treating my RIR hen for Bumblefoot right now, but my local TSC and feedstore do not have Vetercyn +plus.
