I have a Muscovy duckling (about 4-5 weeks old) And something seems off. His neck is sat towards the right side of his body with his crop area big and centered. But his crop has always kind of sat to the left/center before this issue). He walks with it to the right. I’m not sure if it’s wry neck??

he’s not as active as the mallards I’ve raised but I’ve been told muscovys are bigger and slower.
He grew rapidly. Like in the past 1.5 weeks he went from small to big and fat.
The only thing that I can think of causing this is an over consumption of bugs. I’ve been letting him free range now that he’s big, and he’s eating tons of bugs including worms, slugs, earwigs, pill bugs.

I had a duckling with that. I'm trying to remember what it's called, hang on a sec, brb

Scoliosis it was called. That's probably what it has.

oh no. It doesn’t seem to be bothering the little guy too much. Hopefully that doesn’t change.

@MGG is there anything I should do to make him more comfortable? Or can he enjoy the same life as the other ‘normal’ ducks?

I am not too familiar with it. I rescued a wood duck duckling with it in town. It had just jumped from the tree with its siblings that morning, but it was born with scoliosis. It could not keep up and was left behind. Then, before I found it, a cat attacked it and ripped off one of it's legs. So I had this poor duckling with scoliosis and missing a leg. I called the vet and a rehab place, everywhere was full. They told me to just keep it, and to get a chick to raise with it, and to give it some extra TLC. They said to raise it like i would a normal duckling. I got a week old black Auatralorps from TSC on discount and they became buddies. The duck had stunted growth, it was a female, but stayed lookimg like a 4 week old for almost 5 months. I figured it would pass one day. It lived to be 7 months and 3 days old. She passed peacefully. I think the missing leg really messed with her though, her remsining foot was always swollen and sore. Sorry if there are any typos, I'm writing this on my phone. Good luck with your baby! I've heard muscovies are most likely to have it. I'll tag @casportpony for you. Thanks if you pop over, Kathy!

Poor little bubba! I hope my little guy lives a long life. He’s my first and only Muscovy so I wasn’t sure if anything was off or it was just the breed characteristics.
Thanks for replying to my thread!

Yup! I hope that he does too! It would be really great reference if you updated this thread every month or 2 if you're willing to. I'd love to hear how he does too.
