Sorry to be so annoying but it really is infuriating when people don't answer Qs!

Hi,

I was lurking...I am new to chicks as of July, but I went through this with my roo. He had what appeared to be dried blood and poop on his vent. Granted, it is a roo and not a hen, so you may also have prolapse. Here's what I did for my roo:

Wash the vent (and entire backside) with warm water. I also washed him with a gentle flea shampoo. Then I massaged mineral oil around the area and massaged until the poop lifted off. I didn't pull off the poop because it might have pulled skin with it. Finally the poop was soft and I was able to wash off. Unless you clear the area you won't know what you're dealing with because the gunk could be over the prolapse.

The good folks on here want to help you but it's hard without a clear picture of her.

I kept massaging oil daily on his vent until I drowned any possible critters. It may also make it easier for her to poop and lay because it won't stick to the vent & feathers.

Hope this helps!

I'm sorry, Horsefeathers. I was referring to the old expression that one says when they can't get an answer out of somebody: "This is like pulling hen's teeth!" In other words, no matter how hard you try, you can't get the answers you're looking for.

I knew it was probably poor taste to try and interject a little humor when this is a serious thread but you and Pineburrows tried and tried and tried to get answers with little luck so, as I said, I couldn't resist. My bad. Sorry.
