Something's wrong with Sunny! HELP!

Ok...she's doing MUCH better, and just laid a larger egg too!

But she's still not eating much....is there anything I can give to her that will increase her appetite?

Oh, hallelujah! I am so glad to read that Sunny has improved!

My thought on this is that while you definitely want to make sure she is getting enough nutrients, since this is a major body change for her, she may just be feeling a little queasy and off right now.

So, I feel that if she has access to clean water to drink, and some splash time to clean off, and there is free choice oyster shell or similar source of calcium as well as layer pellets or similar well-rounded food, some fresh things, perhaps some dry cat kibble for extra protein and calories, you have done what you can. If you have duck vitamins you can put in her water, that may help. And I like Wifezilla's suggestion about apple cider vinegar (just a little splash in the water, right Wifezilla?). I know when I am feeling a little queasy and odd, it tastes good when nothing else does, and seems to help get through the yuckies.

It seems to me you are making sure she feels comforted and secure, since you pay good close attention to her. That is probably as important as anything.

Please keep us updated.

I got the crushed oyster shell yesterday, but wasn't doing well yesterday night...as she didn't take food nor the shells. I woke up this morning to find that she laid an egg slightly larger than her first, and she was more anxious to get out. She ate a little bit of the layer, and took a couple nibbles of the oyster. So right now she is feeling much better, oh...and her favorite treat is now mealworms. I gave her those before offereing the layer and she eargerly devourerd them all. I can tell she's feeling a bit better.

It now seems like Sunny is going to give us an egg every morning now, she gave us another. But she still has me worried...she doesn't show much of an interest in food. She also doesn't seem to keen on preening after a bath. I can tell she's not happy about her body changing at the moment. I give her mealworms, which she happily eats...but she doesn't show much of an interest on other foods. She still dricks plenty, is there anything I can put in her water to perk her up?

A splash of raw apple cider vinegar.

As for the food intake, keep in mind she is pretty much done growing. She will fill out a little, but she is not growing like mad like she did when she was younger and before she started laying eggs. She might not return to her previous food intake levels.

Just watch her closely and keep and eye on her keel. If the bone in the middle starts to look like it is sticking out, she is underweight and it is a problem. If she looks like she has plump cleavage, she is fine.
