somthing i saw on mythbusters

They are SUPPOSED to be but I don't believe they adhere to that practice. Either that or the handler is excessively careless. It is hard to explain the damage that some of my Priority packages have received. My Postmaster suggested not applying "fragile" to any package. He is convinced someone along the line gets perverse pleasure out of abusing such packages. He has seen a lot more mail than me.

i was told that fragile or not they go on the conveyor and that the boxes you use to pack should be able to withstand 70lbs dropped onto them because that's the limit that the post office will ship... so at any given moment our box of eggs could be just ahead of a 70lb box that will fall off the conveyor right after our eggs

What would be REALLY COOL is if there was a chain of custody record with the status of the sticker noted as the package changed hands each time... THAT would solve the mystery of who dunnit and they could be held accountable.

I once "googled" corrugated cardboard and came up with many companies that carry shipping materials, a few had the stickers that show if the box was mishandled and some would show it it had been opened (in case of pilfering). Many more items too that might cushion eggs better etc. You wouldn't believe all the stuff to protect fragile conents. Point I wanted to make it the prices varied and some were much less expensive than the others.

I would pay for the extra if a seller were willing to just to know. What a fun egg-speriment!

it doesnt have that but there is one that marks the time and datre when impact occoured

If it were insured and the marker was set off to red BUT the eggs still intact could anyone even be held responsible? When I have filed claims they have taken the item and packaging. I think it would be interesting to know but if the eggs were intact I wouldn't want to give them up to the postoffice... wonder how that goes....

Now that would be high dollar!

While it's an ingenious thought, I have trouble believing that anything useful could come from using them. I mean, as someone else pointed out, the recipient will probably try to set the eggs anyway just in case; and AFAIK the post office does not have an explicit guarantee against exceeding a certain force of shock or accelleration in handling packages, so if you came to them and said Hey Lookee, they would most likely just give you one of those looks and go "yeah, so what"

I worked for 4 years in a distribution cent as the lead shipper in a facilty that shipped out up to 25000 packages a day. Many of them fragile. We shippped ups, usps, fedex, DHl and most other carriers. You never put more than 1 fragile , or handle carefully sticker on a box. We did many trails. the more stickers, the more beat up the box would be. We finally quit putting fragile stickers on, unless customer requested. We had less breakage, with no stickers. Also, the objects msut be packed tightly, bubble protects the best. Always use 200 lbd crush boxes, and pack them tighty. On some items , we would double box. But if you pack loosley , you will have much more damage, than packed tightly. Also, I am not defending any shipping company, but do the math. We would load trailers to the bursting point. We only would get at most 6 trailers a day. most of time 4. that is 4000 to 6000 packages per trailer. At the terminal where UPS would tranfer, they have less than 1hr per trailer to unload. No more than 2 guys per trailer. They all have a converyer in the trailer, and then out to be processed. If you think they will handle any of these packages with extreme care, you are mistaken. USPS has less time to sort, and may have fewer people doing it. I used ti think that it was always the freght companys fault, until I stood in thier shoes. There are some extreme cases of damage buy shipping company. Accidents happen. But 99.9 percent of broken in transit can be prevented , by proper packing. And bubble is the tops for preventing damage. bubble in styrafoam in boxes will keep about anything safe. Crushed paper, shredder paper, wood chips, whatever else I have seen, will fail, If it settles it will fail, . Just some things that I have seen
