son found a duck egg

as soon as he brought it home, i kept it warm. i have hatched many mocking bird & bluebird eggs successfully, but each aviary is different and i haven't done this with a duck so i am trying to be sure I'm doing everything right here. <3

You may want to check the laws on this because as far as I can tell gadwall ducks are wild, migratory ducks covered under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.

I may be wrong on the breed, her name is Henrietta, her and her duck friend Howard (identical to the one in your pic) were brought to the pond when she got sick and couldn't care for them, the neighborhood has been taking care of these bdf's (best duckie friends) for 5 years now since the woman died. but this is the first time i have seen ANY eggs, this year we did have other ducks come here that are the same breed as Henrietta, but I'm not sure she knows what to do with an egg and there was only the one that he saw and no little ducklings. Howard and Henrietta have never left the pond area.

Hmm does Henrietta fly? Any way to get a pic? The duck in my profile pic is a pekin btw :)
