son found a duck egg

probably have to have more than 10 comments, it's still not working. i dont think i have any rehabbers close by to take it to, pretty much just corporate stores... petco and such. :/

If you want to raise the duckling (if the egg isn't dead already) you need to make sure that grows up with at least one proper flockmate. If you raise the duckling as an only child there is always the possibility that it fails to recognize other ducks as conspecifics and will be unfit to live on its own. You would have to keep it. And not to mention that you could into trouble with the law.

Forgive my ignorance Denver Ducky and Quack Addict, but I see that mallards are on this list. However, I can buy mallard ducklings at TSC. So is the difference that the ones at TSC aren't wild? If I buy ducklings, raise them and turn them loose on my pond, then later incubate their eggs to raise more ducklings, is that a violation of this law?

Domesticated mallards by law are supposed to be specially marked. The Fish and Wildlife website has information on this as well

Also, domesticated mallards will fly so if you don't want them to fly off they need to be pinioned
