Son's Science Fair Project - ***HELP US TAKE A POLL! See post #22***

I'm getting a free, old style, cabinet incubator being given to me. We could likely do the food color experiement too. We could do it in conjunction with the hatching experiement. Hatching will take some time [obviously] so we could do the food coloring experiement while we wait. I like the thought of doing a poll, this is a great place to do it! I'll edit my first post so folks know there is a poll going on.

So now Jakes science fair project has become 2 experiements. With a cabinet style incubator being given to us (

), we will be doing a hatching project. While waiting for the chicks to hatch, we will also conduct a secondary experiement to see what colors chickens prefer.

Would you help us out by taking our poll? Knowing how chickies love tomatoes, we will be using red; green, blue, and white as a control. I'm thinking of using cooked egg whites as they will hold a true color.

Tell us what you think: will my chickens prefer: red green blue or white

Chickens can see more color than we can. They can even see into the ultraviolet range.

Plus chickens are largely opportunistic, so they might just eat all, or the first one they can get to I think. Could be wrong, but then, this is what I'm in college for, so seems like it would be something to follow along and see how it turns out.

What color backgroud will the food be on? That might make a difference if say, it was white food on a white background, they may not notice it as much.

Thanks for helping out. I think this is an interesting project. I'm not sure I'll even use plates. Plate color may taint the colors. I think I may just put the colors right on the ground in a straight line, somewhat separated. They will be able to see the colors before actually eating them.
