WELCOME TO BYC!! chickens are worth it! I suggest white leghorns for their good heat tolerance and their food to egg conversion 
... they are amazing foragers and aren't super loud as long as you get them young and used to the environment... I got some 14month old ones once and they were super flighty and chirped really loud when they laid and egg and dug up the neighbors garden to no end...lol... got them a new home and decided to raise some more from chick stage... 110% better!! they come running for petting and treats as soon as I walk out the front door! I have almost every breed and these are by far the best for eggs and temperment! plus they lay eggs almost every day like champs, very reliable! ..
